The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway

A powerful new experience on Maryland's Eastern Shore

Welcome to the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway where ordinary people did extraordinary things. Let the Byway lead you through a living land-and-waterscape that commemorates the years before the Civil War when Tubman and others – both black and white, enslaved and free – defied law and society to end slavery. Seek your freedom, as they did, by any means possible.

Welcome, also, to the heart of the Chesapeake Bay where you will find fun and excitement on every adventure. Enjoy paddling, cycling, golfing and bird watching. Relax over fine cuisine or get dirty over fresh steamed crabs and local micro-brews. Shop for one-of-a-kind creations by local artisans or simply take in the waterfront sunsets.
